The Christmas season is a time for sharing. Some people are generous enough to share a percentage of their Christmas bonus or their month’s salary as they shop and wrap presents for you to open (and hopefully use). Gift giving is no longer done just the usual way. People have thought of different ways of giving or should I say granting wishes (as posting your wish list has been part of the mechanics). We all want people to receive gifts that they like. I think we all have that Genie-like persona in us, the desire to grant wishes, to make people happy. Our family’s way of gift giving is through The Kris Kringle. It’s a month long process of first, knowing who you picked, finding out what she/he wants (some of us have been very detailed as to where to find it and whom to ask for help from), saving money to purchase the gift (this step is not necessary for the working class, but I think I’d exempt myself from that group...hehehe), finding the gift and purchasing it and lastly, revealing who you picked and what you have bought for him or her. The whole process is an adventure. I definitely agree to what John and Stasi Eldredge wrote in their book Captivating – “An adventure requires something of us”. The whole adventure of gift giving requires us to find something about who we picked and searching for that one gift that would represent the person. I’m not saying that the gift defines who you are but it reveals a part of what you desire. This year has been a year that revealed a lot of who we are, even as close as we are as cousins, we still continue knowing each other. This year hasn’t just been a year of revealing a part of who we are but has also been an assurance that in the desires we have for ourselves, we are not alone in dreaming. The gifts have been a representation of the support they give in the desires you have. You suddenly find the faith to hold on to the hope you have to achieve your dream. I share with you what we all received for Christmas and I invite you in an adventure of finding out a part of who we are.
